RAKHA BANDHAN

Rakha Bandhan is a beautiful occasion that expresses the deep bond of love between siblings. It is celebrated almost all over India in August. The term Raksha Bandhan, originally from Sanskrit, means protection and care. It is one of the biggest festivals celebrated in India, and the Hindu cultural tradition expressively influences Indians in other parts of the world.

Rakha Bandhan is celebrated on the last day of the Hindu lunar calendar month Shraavana. Raksha Bandhan 2022 is on Thursday, August 11. 

That honor the close relationship of a brother and sister. Express the bond between brother and sister; no matter how much they fight in between, they are permanently joined together in times of difficulties.

On these unique festivals, a girl or a woman puts a tilak on her brother's forehead and tied and rachis on their brother's hands. Traditionally "rakhis" is tied to the brother's right wrist because the right portion is believed to show us the correct way. It has a greater capacity to control the mind and the body/ 

Applying the left hand is always considered inauspicious for every ritual ceremony.

The historical story of Rakha Bandhan is related to Mahabharta. Lord Krishna was hurt in the war and injured his finger while using Sudarshan chakra against king Shishupalal. Seeing his bleeding finger, Draupadi had torn a strip of her saree and tied it around his injured finger to stop the bleeding. Lord Krishna was so touched and impressed with her act in the situation. He assured them to reimburse the debt of gratitude in her upcoming days. All these years later, Pandavas lost their wife Draupadi to crooked Kauravas in the game of dice (gambling games with dice). 

They had tried to remove the long saree of Draupadi. Then, Lord Krishna actively protected the dignity of Draupadi protected through his godly powers.

As a common practice, rakhis are tied to the elder sister if you don't have an older brother. The same is like for single children tied to friends and distant relatives. Let me put it this way more than the gender difference; someone who has been caring and protecting each other is more important.

Families are increasingly nuclear, and the distance between the siblings and the festivals has become more symbolic but increasingly very popular. Festivals spread beyond their traditional regions and have been transformed through the new technology. Regardless of the distance between the siblings, sisters always ensure to send rachis online with  where they are.
